The former personal attorney for Donald Trump has resigned as the chief federal prosecutor in the state. This comes after a legal ruling that invalidated her right to hold the office.

Official Departure

The nation's top law enforcement official, the Attorney General, announced the prosecutor's departure on Monday. In a statement that the court's "flawed" ruling made it impossible for Habba to effectively run her office.

"But do not mistake adherence to the ruling as defeat," she wrote. "My fight will now stretch across America."

Judicial Challenge

Her resignation follows closely on a federal appellate panel found that she had been unlawfully serving as the top prosecutor. This ruling is likely to affect numerous prosecutions in New Jersey.

The appellate judges said that a acting appointment that skirted Senate approval breached the Federal Vacancies Reform Act.

Ongoing Legal Battle

Bondi said that she will continue working within the Department of Justice as a top consultant. Habba plans to challenge the decision of the court's action, aiming for a reversal.

In a statement, she argued that the court "should not be able to second-guess the appointment of attorneys entrusted with performing the fundamental role of the presidency of prosecuting crime."
