A standout among Avatar's top installments is honored with an exclusive Magic: The Gathering special card drop.
Ordinarily, summary installments are disliked from viewers as a needless waste of time, or perhaps viewed as a necessity in television during the period of weekly production. However, this wasn't the case, and Avatar: The Last Airbender showed it through "The Ember Island Players," a popular installment during its concluding run now being granted an exclusive Magic: The Gathering Secret Lair release.
Highlights about the special release
The full Secret Lair superdrop for the forthcoming Avatar: The Last Airbender collection was revealed earlier this month. Containing five separate collections, and although the one called "My Cabbages!" is clearly funny homage to the series' most famous minor character, the other collections appear slightly uninspired, except for one standout: "The Ember Island Players."
Inspired by the seventeenth episode from season 3 of the animated show, this collector's drop contains the following cards:
- 1x Phantasmal Image as "Absolutely Accurate Actor"
- 1x Braid of Fire
- 1x Cursed Mirror
- 1x Mask of Memory
- 1x Thespian's Stage
Why this segment is special
Viewers of the show warmly cherish this episode, which acted as a summary of Aang and the group's adventure prior to the final episode. Unlike standard summary installments, or compilation episodes, "The Ember Island Players" wasn't motivated due to production constraints or production issues. The producers truly wanted to offer viewers an opportunity to revisit the overall plot, however, they opted to execute it with flair.
Throughout the segment, the crew watches a play inspired by their journeys at a playhouse located on Ember Island, named The Boy in the Iceberg. The whole thing is factually incorrect, cheesy, and overall hilarious. It succeeds because it plays with the characters' perception about themselves, juxtaposing them against how the world (and particularly the Fire Nation) sees them. It has an ideal level of introspective humor, and it results in arguably the top rendition of the show we have had.
Appeal and cost
Regarding worth, this offers a fantastic Secret Lair for one simple reason: Braid of Fire. This particular card is valued between $20 and $40 on various platforms as of now, and at $29.99 you can obtain the entire Secret Lair, or alternatively $39.99 for the foil version.
Magic: The Gathering's Avatar: The Last Airbender edition will be available for advance previews starting November 14 and releases worldwide on November 21.
